lone star disbatch, issue #4

A1 writing

I chose the story called Varsity Cheerleaders prepare for national competition. This story is about the High School national cheerleading competition on February 10 in Orlando Florida. The varsity cheer team has been preparing for this competition all year even through football season. This is known to be the most prestigious competition in the country. There are many international teams that compete in this competition.

Who:  The varsity cheer team
What: The national cheer competition
Where: In Orlando Florida
When: February 10
How: They qualified for this competition at a competition at Texas State University.
Who was quoted in story: Bridget Alvarez, Tanya Lindt, and Coach Roggeman.
The strongest quote in this story, in my opinion, was Coach Roggeman's quote. I think this because you see it from the coaches opinion.
The leading sentence made me want to keep reading. I am a cheerleader so for me personally i wanted to keep reading and my sister is on the varsity team.

I really like this photo but, I think it was a little blurry, I do give credit because it was an action shot. I like how it focused on one person, but everyone around her is looking away and only other person looking. The photo is talking about the varsity cheer team but it has a picture of the junior varsity cheer team. In this photo. I see simplicity, and a little bit of rule of thirds because Jordan the main subject is a little to the left. The main subject in this photo is Jordan Haschke a Junior varsity cheerleader. I this the photo is exposed properly. I don't see depth in this photo.

I chose the story called principal search begins and ends here. The story is about the search for a new principal. The story talks about having the interim principal and how the district is naming a permanent one this semester. People want a principle that can handle constructive criticism and who strives for the well-being of Bowie. they want someone to motivate students. Mrs. Leos is the interim principal and is hoping for the permanent job. Her is a quote for Mrs. Leos, "We support her, and we think she would be an excellent leader driven by the successes and needs."

Who: Permanent principal job and Mrs. Leos
What: The things the students and staff want in whoever fills this job.
Where: Bowie High School
When: This semester
How: The district chooses who gets the job.
Who was quoted in the story: there was no one quoted in the story but there are some wants from the students and teachers.
The strongest quote in this story, in my opinion, was the one from the students and teachers because it shows who they support.
The leading sentence made me want to keep reading because it involves my school.

A6 photos

I really like this photo because it is not just a picture someone took, it a piece of are someone drew. I like it because it shows the opinions from a student. I think the picture could have some more thoughts from the students. There isn't really a composition rule because is art and not a picture. The main subject is the student thoughts. The are is exposed properly. I don't see any depth in the art.

I chose the story behind the scenes of the who's Tommy musical. The story is about the tech behind the masterpiece. The musical was said to be very stressful and hard to finish but in the end the were happy with product. The tech teacher Matthew Humphrey is the guide of the tech team and he is quoted to be an essential part of getting the show together and getting it running.

Who: tech team and Matthew Humphrey
What: The time crunch and the easiest and hardest parts.
Where: The Bowie Theatre
When: no specific date
How: Matthew Humphrey guides the team.
Who was quoted in the story: The director Kayln Holloway, Matthew Humphrey
The strongest quote, in my opinion, is Matthew Humphrey's because he is the one going all the students and is quoted to be making this musical run.

B4 photos

I like this photo because it shows Mr. Humphrey teaching and leading the tech team. It shows some of the wood and tools in the background. But it could be more exciting with like them using some tools or climbing a ladder or something. I see the rule of simplicity and lines. The main subject is The musical in general, it is also Mr. Humphrey and the tech team. The photo is exposed properly. I do see a little bit of depth because you can see the tools and the area behind the main point.

A8 photos

In this photograph, I think that the lighting is a little bit too bright. I think this is because of the lighting already in the building added on to the picture. I think the picture are good, I really like the action shots. I like how it is a bigger story so there is more room for the full story from beginning to end. You really get more detail on the topic. I see lines with the beans and the bars in the background. The main subject is Kate Stubbs and her Gymnastics. The photo was exposed properly.

B8

In these photos, the lighting is perfect, maybe because it is natural light but it looks great. I love how the photographer got group picture of the protest but the also got single picture of people holding up a sign. The main subject in this spread is women's rights and the women's rights protest. The photo is exposed properly. I see simplicity and balance.

My favorite photo in the entire paper is the women's rights photos. These are my favorite because they show good lighting and good rules of composition like balance. The story is also really interesting and it is a very political subject in our world today.

My least favorite photos are probably the gymnastics story pictures. I don't like them because the lighting is not very good and some of the angles are off.

If I were on the staff I would love to do the story about the varsity cheer team because I think it would be so fun to take pictures on the field and to see the cheerleaders and the game up close.

I would rate this issue and 8 out of 10 because the pictures go with the story and most of the pictures are exposed well. The stories are well written. I would love to get some more details on some of the stories because they are interesting.

front pages of the world

1. My favorite newspaper front page is the Las Angeles Times. I like this one because it has a lot of different topics and it focus on the important stuff in the world.

2. My favorite headline is "from traffic stop to fatal police gunfight". I'm interested in this because it shows how something so simple can lead to death.

3. There are seven stories on the front page of favorite newspaper.

4. I notice that all of the headlines are big and bolded the most important stories have the biggest pictures. The title is also big.

5. The things that vary on the front covers of newspapers are the text size, the pictures and the picture size. Some newspapers have drawings instead of pictures.

extra credit

They website I picked was DIY Photography. I choose this website because it was way that people can learn about new types of photography. This can also introduce a new type of photography to the world. The websites intention is to show you different ways to take pictures and different styles. It also shows you the types of photos other people are taking. People leave comments/answers to people's questions about photography. They also write about camera gear  and the costs and brands. There is also talk about inspiration and picture styles. They have tutorials and news. There is also homemade gear and picture ideas. The average viewer can a lot out of this website. Like DIY ideas and inspiration. I would add this website to my bookmarks because i could ask questions and see whats in style. I could also see what gear is best. I would recommend this website to photographers because there is a lot of options on this site. I would rate this website a 4.

I learned that you can process your own photos a home in an inexpensive way. There are many notes on how to make these pictures come out. You only need simple items, An Air duster, wet mount solution, acetate sheets, glass cleaner, and cloths. One note they left was that when scanning films, some scanners have pre-focused lenses. These require the film be a certain distance from the glass because they are designed to be designed to be used with film holders.
