American Soldier

A.  The most powerful image i found was the picture of Fisher bowing his head in prayer after a hard day of work. While he was suffering from a heat rash on his neck, chest and back. Later he said,
“I’ve been praying that God takes this stuff off my back.” I think this image is powerful because it shows how he stays strong and who he turns to when he is in need in the tough times of war.

B. The images in the article create a story by showing you what he wants to be to what he becomes. It shows him on his graduation day and him opening his diploma. All he wanted to do was be enlisted to the army and he couldn't do that if he didn't have a diploma. Then it goes to him going off to an recruiting office to learn the basic training from another soldier. It then goes to him getting ready for combat then going into combat. As the weeks go by it shows Fisher turning to god to help him through the tough times of combat.

C. The captions give you more information on the pictures and they draw out details that you made not have noticed. They help know exactly what is going on.

D. Ian Fisher enlisted in the army to redefine his life and help and save others. He went through a process to train and build his body to become the best  he could be. He encountered many hardships and tough life decisions. Even through the hardest times he always turned to god to help him. He was put on many drugs that impacted him in a major way and his family was really worried for his well being. He found joy in saving lives even though he was away from family and the times were tough. Ian enlisted for a year-long deployment where he was sent to Iraq. He found many new things about himself through this experience. He new how lucky his life was by seeing and living some of these peoples experiences. When Fisher came back from his final deployment he proposed to his girlfriend and they got married the same day.

E. In the photos where Ian is the main subject the captions are mainly written in present tense.

F. The captions are about2-3 sentences long. In the first sentence the captions is given a who, what, when, where and why. In the second sentence more details are given and sometimes there is a quote.
In the third sentence it is based on what the person or subject thinks or feels in their case Ian. Most of the captions in Denver post provide a quote that shows emotion and their feelings in the photo that was captured. There were some of the captions that had four sentences throughout the newspaper. It usually only happened when there are multiple people have a quote.

G. I think it is possible to tell  full story with just pictures and captions because a picture can show the emotion and the caption can add details and tell you whats really going on the picture.

H. Even though you can create a story with photos and captions it is still important to write the story so you can be creative with it and add more detail and more explanation.
